Accelerated MaineMBA Pathway for Current UMS Students


The Accelerated MaineMBA pathway provides candidates from all majors at the 91±¬ÁÏ, the University of Southern Maine, the 91±¬ÁÏ at Presque Isle, the 91±¬ÁÏ Fort Kent, and the 91±¬ÁÏ at Machias the opportunity to complete the MaineMBA in one to two academic years of full-time study.

This program is offered to current undergraduates only. The accelerated MaineMBA pathway can be combined with any major’s program requirements, allowing you to graduate with your MBA immediately following your bachelor’s degree. In some cases, students can also begin graduate work in their senior year. This accelerated program is encouraged for high-achieving, driven students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or better.

  • Financial Management (MBA 651)

And choose one of two pathways:

Admission Requirements

To apply, current students should:

International students will also submit:

  • or scores.Ìý As of July 1, 2024, English Language Proficiency scores are required for all international students applying to the MBA unless the student has completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the USA or Canada (excluding Quebec province). There are no exemptions or waivers.

All applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis. Three-year degree holders are encouraged to apply.

ÌýInternational students wishing to complete the program online from their home country may apply and start any semester. Special exceptions may be considered for students currently in the U.S. on a student visa. The MaineMBA does not offer a fully in-person option for international applicants seeking an F-1 or J-1 visa.

MaineMBA Concentrations are available for Accelerated Pathway students. Concentration students will take a series of three pre-determined electives to fulfill their concentration:

Prerequisite Courses

To ensure that all MaineMBA students have a foundation of business core concepts, prior coursework in the following areas is required of Accelerated Pathway students. Depending on your undergraduate major, your requirements may differ. Please schedule an advising appointment to determine your exact requirements.Ìý Most students will need courses including:

  • accounting (financial and managerial)
  • economics (macro and micro)
  • statistics
  • finance

Applicants should begin planning for the Accelerated Pathway early to ensure requirements are met.

Professional Recommendations

Recommenders shouldÌýbe able to comment on your academic strengths, work ethic,Ìýresponsibilities, accomplishments, career advancement,Ìýmanagerial experience, or ability to be successful in the MaineMBA.

Application Writing Submission

A writing submission describing your career goals and aspirations to earn your MaineMBA is required. The submission is evaluated not only for content but also for intrinsic writing quality and strengths. The piece should be no longer than 500 words total.

GMAT Exam

Accelerated Pathway applicants with a cumulative GPA above 3.25 do not need to submit GMAT scores. All other applicants must submit scores taken within the last five years.

  • Other standardized tests (e.g., GRE, LSAT, MAT) may be substituted if taken within five years.
  • The GMAT may be waived for strong candidates with five or more years of post-graduate professional or military experience, including:
    • Management of staff in a direct working relationship
    • Leadership of work teams
    • Financial or budgetary responsibility
    • Job responsibilities that specifically demonstrate applied quantitative and analytical skills

Application Fees

Application fees are waived for:

  • Graduates of 91±¬ÁÏ System Schools
  • Veterans of the US Armed Forces
  • Fulbright Scholars
  • Participants in select programs (eg. IRT/McNair)

Admissions Timeline for Current 91±¬ÁÏ Students

First – Third Years:

  • Meet with undergraduate academic advisor
  • Maintain a 3.25 overall GPA
  • Submit Declaration of Intent to Enroll form
  • Complete prerequisite courses with a B- or better

Third Year:

  • Meet with MaineMBA Recruitment Specialist
  • Apply and receiveÌýprovisional admission to the MaineMBA

Fourth Year:

  • Begin graduate level courses
  • GRADUATE WITH BACHELOR’S (March in Spring Commencement)

Fifth Year:

  • Complete final graduate- level courses
  • GRADUATEÌýWITH MBA (March in Spring Commencement)

Important: In the senior year of your undergraduate program, providing you 1.) have completed all business prerequisites with a grade of B- or better, 2.) maintained a 3.25 GPA and 3.) have applied and been provisionally accepted to the MBA, you may enroll in two MBA courses.Ìý
