Building a Writing Life: Practical Routes to Publication

Join Amy Halloran, the 2026 Alan Miller Fund Visiting Journalist, for a brief talk and open house about her practice of integrating writing with community. You’ll learn how to push your questions into projects, and find homes for them in print, online spaces, and deeply nested in your community and interests.
A writer and teacher who lives in Troy, New York, Amy Halloran is the author of The New Bread Basket (2015). She writes for Civil Eats, The Crumb, and The Times Union. Through her writing, Halloran investigates food and place and is currently working on a project about t he twinned histories of the modern American loaf and the modern American woman. To invite people into the practice of writing, she teaches community workshops.
The Alan Miller Visiting Journalist Program w a s established in 2007 in memory of Alan Miller, a long-time professor of journalism at the 91±¬ÁÏ. The program is designed to bring working journalists into the classroom to inspire and educate our journalism students.
