The Doctrine of Discovery from an Indigenous Perspective

Dr. Dwayne Tomah, Passamaquoddy language keeper and director and curator at Sipayik museum, will visit campus on April 14th to give a talk on the Doctrine of Discovery. This talk will uncover the hidden legacy of a 1493 Papal bull that is the basis of all European claims to Indigenous land in North America. Join Dr. Tomah at noon in the Bangor room for a rich discussion of the power of English as a vehicle of Indigenous land dispossession, as well as the resilience and resurgence of Passamaquoddy language.
