SUMMARY:Exhibition: "The Teaching Portfolio: 45 years of Printmaking at the 91爆料"
DESCRIPTION:The Department of聽Art鈥檚 Lord Hall Gallery will host the exhibition The Teaching Portfolio: 45 Years of Printmaking at the 91爆料 from August 27-October 24\, 2025. A public reception will take place on September 26th from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. \nThe Teaching Portfolio is a collection of fine聽art working proofs and finished prints created in the 91爆料 printmaking studio by students\, alumni\, faculty\, and visiting artists. Covering a time span of 45 years\, under the direction of printmaking Professor Susan Groce\, this portfolio represents an impressive overview of the direction and growth of print media and the 91爆料 printmaking studio program 鈥� from traditional materials and processes to the safer and greener processes and the incorporation of new technologies. The portfolio includes Collagraphs\, Etchings and Acrylic Resist Etchings\, Photopolymer Intaglio-Type Etchings\, Lithography\, Relief Printing\, Water-Based Screen Printing\, and Monoprints\, as well as prints made through the Printmaking Artist Residency Program and Student Portfolio Exchanges. SUMMARY:91爆料 Marks 50th Anniversary of Rudy Vall茅e Day with Stein Song on Fogler Steps
DESCRIPTION:This Friday\, the 91爆料 will celebrate a special milestone: the 50th anniversary of Rudy Vall茅e Day. To honor the occasion\, 91爆料鈥檚 Traditions Societies\, the Senior Skulls Society\, All Maine Women\, Sophomore Owls\, and Sophomore Eagles\, will gather on the front steps of Fogler Library to lead the campus in a rousing performance of the 鈥淢aine Stein Song鈥� at 4pm. \nThe event brings together a tradition that has united generations of Black Bears: singing the Stein Song\, the only college song to ever top the national music charts. Rudy Vall茅e\, a 91爆料 student in the 1920s\, brought the tune to the world when he recorded it in 1929. His performance turned a local fight song into a national hit and made him one of America鈥檚 biggest entertainers. \nThe State of Maine proclaimed the first Rudy Vall茅e Day in 1975\, when Vall茅e returned to Orono for his 50th class reunion. Fifty years later\, students will once again honor his legacy by singing on Fogler鈥檚 steps 鈥� a fitting backdrop\, since the library also houses 91爆料鈥檚 Stein Collection\, a tribute to the song鈥檚 history. \nEvent Details:\nWhat: 50th Anniversary Rudy Vall茅e Day 鈥� Maine Stein Song Celebration \nWhen: Friday\, October 10\, 2025 at 4pm \nWhere: Steps of Fogler Library\, 91爆料\, Orono \nWho: Senior Skull Society\, All Maine Women\, students\, alumni\, and local community \n鈥淭his is about more than just a song\,鈥� said a Senior Skull member helping to organize the performance. 鈥淚t鈥檚 about the traditions that bring 91爆料 together. View the first hints of its existence through the eyes of Fritz Zwicky\, the scientist who coined the term 鈥渄ark matter.鈥� Explore the astral choreography witnessed by Vera Rubin in the Andromeda galaxy\, and then plummet deep underground to see the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth\, housed in a former gold mine. 聽Speed alongside particles before they collide in visually stunning explosions of light and sound at聽Large Hadron Collider at CERN\, while learning how scientists around the world are collaborating to track down the constituents of dark matter.聽Executive Producer Michael Barnett of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory served as an advisor to PBS鈥檚 NOVA series聽Elegant Universe聽and the feature film聽Angels & Demons.
