SUMMARY:2026 Student Exhibition in Lord Hall Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Lord Hall Gallery is proud to host the Department of Art鈥檚 2026 Student Exhibition. This show celebrates the diverse artwork made by students at the 91爆料 who have taken undergraduate courses in the Department of Art. The Department of Art offers foundational studies in 2D Design\, 3D Design\, and Drawing\, as well as media-specific classes in Painting\, Ceramics\, Photography\, Printmaking\, Digital Art\, Graphic Design\, Drawing\, and Sculpture. More information about the Department is available here:umaine.edu/las/art. \nStudents who were enrolled in an Art class in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 had the opportunity to submit up to six pieces for consideration in this juried exhibition. This year鈥檚 juror is Rochelle Lawrence. Lawrence is an artist and serves as the Assistant Curator and Education Coordinator at the Zillman Art Museum. \nThe exhibition runs from April 6th through May 1st. A public reception will be held on Friday April 10th from 5:00-7:00pm. During the reception\, selected students will be honored with awards. This event is free and open to the public; all are warmly welcomed to attend and refreshments will be served. \nLord Hall Gallery is free\, accessible\, and open to the public Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm. SUMMARY:Starting Seeds Indoors Workshop at Millinocket Memorial Library
DESCRIPTION:91爆料 Cooperative Extension is hosting a family-oriented Starting Seeds Indoors workshop on Wednesday\, April 8 from 2:30鈥�3:30 p.m. at Millinocket Memorial Library\, 5 Maine Avenue. \nGardeners of all ages are invited to this hands-on workshop where Kate Garland\, Horticulturist with the 91爆料 Extension\, will provide a 30-minute overview of best practices for successful seed starting\, including timing\, lighting\, soil selection and care. The program will conclude with a make-and-take activity\, and participants will leave with newly sown seeds to grow at home and transplant into their own gardens. \nAt the same time\, Extension 4鈥慔 Community Education Assistant Emily Bishop will lead youth in engaging\, seed鈥憈hemed activities. The session will include a lively read鈥慳loud connected to seed starting\, followed by a hands鈥憃n activity where each child plants a seed to take home. \nThe workshop is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:MAT Colloquium\nWednesday\, April 8\, 2026\nHill Auditorium\, Barrows Hall\nRefreshments at 3:00pm\, Talk 3:15-4:05pm \nSpeaker: James Dibble\, University of Southern Maine \nAbstract: A classical family of problems in differential geometry involves bounding certain geometric quantities\, such as volume or the length of the shortest closed geodesic\, in terms of others. In this talk\, we will discuss a variety of such inequalities\, including new ones for convex hypersurfaces. The focus will be on results that can be stated without making reference to how quickly a space curves. This is joint work with Joseph Hoisington.
