DESCRIPTION:The Department of聽Art鈥檚 Lord Hall Gallery will host the exhibition The Teaching Portfolio: 45 Years of Printmaking at the 91爆料 from August 27-October 24\, 2025. A public reception will take place on September 26th from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. \nThe Teaching Portfolio is a collection of fine聽art working proofs and finished prints created in the 91爆料 printmaking studio by students\, alumni\, faculty\, and visiting artists. Covering a time span of 45 years\, under the direction of printmaking Professor Susan Groce\, this portfolio represents an impressive overview of the direction and growth of print media and the 91爆料 printmaking studio program 鈥� from traditional materials and processes to the safer and greener processes and the incorporation of new technologies. The portfolio includes Collagraphs\, Etchings and Acrylic Resist Etchings\, Photopolymer Intaglio-Type Etchings\, Lithography\, Relief Printing\, Water-Based Screen Printing\, and Monoprints\, as well as prints made through the Printmaking Artist Residency Program and Student Portfolio Exchanges. SUMMARY:Intimate Partner/Domestic Violence Intervention Training for Mental Health Professionals
DESCRIPTION:If your employer is a compact member of the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine鈥檚 Workforce\, you may be eligible to take this program at a reduced cost. Visit our Harold Alfond Center Workforce Development Funding page for more information. \nProgram Description\nThis two-day program\, presented in partnership with New Hope Midcoast\, is designed for social workers\, substance abuse counselors and other mental health professionals\, as well as clergy\, police officers and first responders to become certified in intimate partner violence training. \nThe following topics will be covered during the 12-contact hours of the program: foundations of domestic abuse\, addressing the lasting impact of domestic abuse\, intervention strategies of domestic abuse and trauma-informed and culturally competent responses to domestic abuse. \nProgram Benefits\nThis 12-hour curriculum was developed collaboratively by the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence and partners in the mental health field in order to meet the 2020 domestic violence training requirements for psychologists\, licensed clinical social workers and licensed clinical professional counselors (see L.D. 1238. 126th Legis. 2013). The four three-hour modules include information that will help mental health professionals be prepared to work with people who have experienced and perpetrated domestic abuse and violence. \nTopics Covered\nDay 1\nModule 1 鈥� Domestic Abuse: Foundations \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nDefine domestic abuse and trauma\nExamine the multitude of barriers to safety that batters create for their partners and family members\nIdentify the tactics that batterers employ to obtain and maintain power and control over their partners and family members\n\nModule 2 鈥� Domestic Abuse: Addressing the Lasting Impact \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nDiscuss the impact of trauma on the brain\nIdentify several short and long-term health impacts of domestic violence\nDescribe particular challenges facing survivors of multi-abuse trauma\n\nDay 2\nModule 3 鈥� Domestic Abuse: Intervention Strategies \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nDistinguish between appropriate roles for mental health providers and those for domestic violence advocates\nIdentify screening strategies to use in your practice\nDescribe the basic safety planning strategies\, including how to refer to a domestic violence resource center\nDefine the difference between risk analysis and evidence-based risk assessment\nAnalyze batterer tactics of control as they relate to seeking professional help\n\nModule 4 鈥� Domestic Abuse: Trauma-Informed and Culturally Competent Responses \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nDiscuss trauma-informed strategies for working with survivors\nList strategies for addressing secondary trauma that you may experience as a provide\nAnalyze the barriers and resources faith provides to both survivors and abusers\nDescribe various aspects of culturally competent services and list culturally-specific domestic violence resources in Maine\n\nWho Should Enroll\n\nPsychologists\nLicensed clinical social workers\nLicensed clinical professional counselors\n\nNot sure if this program is right for you? Her background is in gender and sexuality studies\, as well as in campus-based sexual violence prevention. Their current role as a Community Prevention Educator focuses on working directly with people impacted by domestic abuse\, dating violence and stalking. In addition\, they provide educational resources to members of the Midcoast Maine community about the dynamics of domestic abuse. SUMMARY:Field Day & Fun Run at Rogers Farm
DESCRIPTION:91爆料 Cooperative Extension is hosting a Field Day and kids鈥� Harvest Fun Run on Saturday\, Sept. 6\, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rogers Farm\, 914 Bennoch Road. \nThis seasonal celebration will feature informational tables\, tastings and art in the garden. Visitors can explore over 30 themed gardens\, including the expanded Harvest for Hunger gardens and the well-established native plant collection. Staff and volunteers will provide insights on soil testing\, season extension and pollinator-friendly gardening. \nChildren up to 12 years old can participate in a 陆 mile Harvest Fun Run through farm fields adjacent to the demonstration garden. The event will also feature the Great Veggie Race\, where competitors of all ages can create and decorate wheeled vegetable vehicles. Participants can bring their own vegetable (under 3 lbs\, please) or select one upon arrival. \nThe Field Day and Harvest Fun Run are free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Program Description\nOnline SAT Prep Matters and SAT Boot Camp are new courses designed by Dr Mary Smyth\, a long-time SAT coach in the Midcoast. College-bound high school juniors who plan to take the SAT test will benefit from learning about the new format and updated content of the new SAT. \n鈥淚 am actually a fan of the new SAT\,鈥� says Dr. Smyth. She explained the test is shorter (2 hours 15 minutes total) and questions are individualized to each student. The digital approach allows the test to 鈥渞eact鈥� to the student鈥檚 prior answers and change the difficulty level. The reading passages are shorter and there is a combined section with both reading and grammar questions included. The test also has a visible built-in timer and a calculator and graphing program available for all the math questions. \nThe new test will require a whole new approach to studying and practicing. While there are free resources available on Khan Academy\, most students will need guidance in understanding how to approach the test. For instance\, students can attempt a math problem by using any of several techniques: graph the problem\, write out the algebra steps\, or try the answers to see which one fits. Knowing how to navigate between those options will give students more strategies and can increase their scores. \n鈥淲ith this new SAT format\, I am amazed how much teaching I can do to help students solidify knowledge they have been exposed to in high school\, 鈥� says Smyth. 鈥淪tudents have to be able to use what they have learned to solve problems. That is the name of the game in the SAT.鈥� \nDr. Mary Smyth鈥檚 SAT Boot Camp has been used successfully to prepare students to take the SAT for many years. This workshop is focused on maple producers. Presenters will include experts from 91爆料 Extension and its conservation partners. \nThe cost to attend is $30 per person\, which includes a copy of the Maine Invasive Plants Field Guide. DESCRIPTION:The Department of聽Art鈥檚 Lord Hall Gallery will host the exhibition The Teaching Portfolio: 45 Years of Printmaking at the 91爆料 from August 27-October 24\, 2025. A public reception will take place on September 26th from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. \nThe Teaching Portfolio is a collection of fine聽art working proofs and finished prints created in the 91爆料 printmaking studio by students\, alumni\, faculty\, and visiting artists. Covering a time span of 45 years\, under the direction of printmaking Professor Susan Groce\, this portfolio represents an impressive overview of the direction and growth of print media and the 91爆料 printmaking studio program 鈥� from traditional materials and processes to the safer and greener processes and the incorporation of new technologies. The portfolio includes Collagraphs\, Etchings and Acrylic Resist Etchings\, Photopolymer Intaglio-Type Etchings\, Lithography\, Relief Printing\, Water-Based Screen Printing\, and Monoprints\, as well as prints made through the Printmaking Artist Residency Program and Student Portfolio Exchanges.
