SUMMARY:Exhibition: "The Teaching Portfolio: 45 years of Printmaking at the 91爆料"
DESCRIPTION:The Department of聽Art鈥檚 Lord Hall Gallery will host the exhibition The Teaching Portfolio: 45 Years of Printmaking at the 91爆料 from August 27-October 24\, 2025. A public reception will take place on September 26th from 5-7pm. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. \nThe Teaching Portfolio is a collection of fine聽art working proofs and finished prints created in the 91爆料 printmaking studio by students\, alumni\, faculty\, and visiting artists. Covering a time span of 45 years\, under the direction of printmaking Professor Susan Groce\, this portfolio represents an impressive overview of the direction and growth of print media and the 91爆料 printmaking studio program 鈥� from traditional materials and processes to the safer and greener processes and the incorporation of new technologies. The portfolio includes Collagraphs\, Etchings and Acrylic Resist Etchings\, Photopolymer Intaglio-Type Etchings\, Lithography\, Relief Printing\, Water-Based Screen Printing\, and Monoprints\, as well as prints made through the Printmaking Artist Residency Program and Student Portfolio Exchanges. SUMMARY:Build a Better Business Workshop- Machias
DESCRIPTION:91爆料 Cooperative Extension in partnership with the Maine Business School will offer Build a Better Business\, a hands-on workshop for business owners and prospective entrepreneurs. The Machias workshop will be held on Wednesday\, Sept. 24 at the 91爆料 Machias\, 116 O鈥橞rien Avenue\, Machias. \nThe session offers a full-day program from 8:30 a.m.鈥�4:30 p.m.\, or the choice of a half-day morning or afternoon session. Morning sessions will focus on business strategy and financial modeling. Afternoon sessions will cover business resilience planning and developing a growth mindset. The session will include a locally catered lunch and snacks. \nPresenters include Jason Entsminger\, Ph.D.\, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at the Maine Business School and Extension state specialist for small business; Jason Harkins\, Ph.D.\, executive dean of the Maine Business School and dean of the Graduate School of Business; Jens Kaus\, Ph.D.\, postdoctoral fellow in sustainable business at the Maine Business School; and Lisa Liberatore\, serial entrepreneur and adjunct instructor at the Maine Business School. The presenters bring experience in applied research\, rural entrepreneurship\, venture scaling and business education. \nThe cost is $75 for a half-day or $100 for a full-day session\, including lunch. A minimum of 12 participants may be required per site. Scholarships are available for participants working in Maine鈥檚 outdoor recreation economy; those with businesses related to outdoor recreation may select a reduced rate of $20 for the full-day session when registering. Registration closes three days prior to each event. DESCRIPTION:4-H Youth Development Program in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties\, a part of 91爆料 Cooperative Extension\, will offer two\, 4-week Family STEM Club sessions this fall at the 91爆料 Extension office\, 24 Main Street in Lisbon Falls. \nFamilies will engage in hands-on STEM projects together\, with opportunities for adults to lead the activities with support from 4-H staff. Adults interested in learning how 4-H clubs operate and youth interested in joining 4-H are encouraged to attend. \nSeries 1 will be offered on Thursdays\, September 18 through October 9. Series 2 will be offered on Thursdays\, October 30 through November 20. All sessions will meet from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Youth must be ages 5 to 11 and a resident of Androscoggin or Sagadahoc County to participate. \nParticipation is free however space is limited. SUMMARY:Flourishing After Leaving Religion
DESCRIPTION:Daryl R. Van Tongeren\, Ph.D.\, is a professor of psychology at Hope College and the director of the Frost Center for Social Science Research. A social psychologist\, he has published more than 250 scholarly articles and chapters\, and four books\, on topics such as religion\, meaning in life\, and virtues. Most recently\, his work has focused on the psychological and social processes of leaving religion and undergoing religious change. His research has been covered by numerous media outlets\, including the New York Times\, The Atlantic\, and Hidden Brain\, and has been supported by numerous grants from the John Templeton Foundation. He has won national and international awards for his research and has earned Fellow status at the Association for Psychological Science\, Society for Experimental Social Psychology\, Midwestern Psychological Association\, and International Society for Science and Religion. He is an associate editor for The Journal of Positive Psychology and a consulting editor for Psychology of Religion and Spirituality. \nIn his own words\, 鈥淭he religious landscape of the United States is changing. Increasingly more people are leaving religion\, and many are searching for nonreligious spiritual answers to deep existential questions. For some\, this process is liberating and exhilarating; for others\, it is marked by grief\, anxiety\, and fear. This talk harnesses cutting-edge empirical research to explore why people leave religion\, how this identity shift changes their life\, and the various forms of post-religious flourishing may take. First\, I first explore four primary reasons why people are leaving religion. Understanding that no religious deidentification process is the same\, I discuss several unique challenges people may face when as they walk away from their faith\, including the tendency for features of one鈥檚 religious past to linger and the challenges of social relationships. Next\, I present recent work on how nonreligious individuals strive to satisfy their desire for existential comfort and security outside of traditional religious structures. Finally\, I outline various pathways toward flourishing amid a changing religious identity.鈥�

DESCRIPTION:A public reception for The Teaching Portfolio: 45 Years of Printmaking at the 91爆料 will take place on September 26th from 5-7pm in Lord Hall Gallery. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend. \nThe Teaching Portfolio is a collection of fine art working proofs and finished prints created in the 91爆料 printmaking studio by students\, alumni\, faculty\, and visiting artists. Covering a time span of 45 years\, under the direction of printmaking Professor Susan Groce\, this portfolio represents an impressive overview of the direction and growth of print media and the 91爆料 printmaking studio program 鈥� from traditional materials and processes to the safer and greener processes and the incorporation of new technologies. The portfolio includes Collagraphs\, Etchings and Acrylic Resist Etchings\, Photopolymer Intaglio-Type Etchings\, Lithography\, Relief Printing\, Water-Based Screen Printing\, and Monoprints\, as well as prints made through the Printmaking Artist Residency Program and Student Portfolio Exchanges. With the help of modern technology\, the idea of a show combining breath-taking views of the solar system and beyond\, played out to 42 minutes of The Dark Side Of The Moon in surround sound\, has been embraced by the band. NSC Creative have led the visual production efforts\, working closely with Pink Floyd鈥檚 long time creative collaborator Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis. \nEach song has a different theme; some futuristically looking forward and some a retro acknowledgment to Pink Floyd鈥檚 visual history\, all relating to a time and space experience\, embracing up to the minute technology that only a Planetarium can offer. A truly immersive and all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you way beyond the realms of 2D experience. \nTickets are $9 for general admission. \nMusic programs may contain explicit lyrics\, and are intended for adult audiences. All music programs may contain bright flashing lights and fast-moving images\, which have been known to trigger seizures with those with photosensitive epilepsy.
