SUMMARY:2026 Student Exhibition in Lord Hall Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Lord Hall Gallery is proud to host the Department of Art鈥檚 2026 Student Exhibition. This show celebrates the diverse artwork made by students at the 91爆料 who have taken undergraduate courses in the Department of Art. The Department of Art offers foundational studies in 2D Design\, 3D Design\, and Drawing\, as well as media-specific classes in Painting\, Ceramics\, Photography\, Printmaking\, Digital Art\, Graphic Design\, Drawing\, and Sculpture. More information about the Department is available here:umaine.edu/las/art. \nStudents who were enrolled in an Art class in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 had the opportunity to submit up to six pieces for consideration in this juried exhibition. This year鈥檚 juror is Rochelle Lawrence. Lawrence is an artist and serves as the Assistant Curator and Education Coordinator at the Zillman Art Museum. \nThe exhibition runs from April 6th through May 1st. A public reception will be held on Friday April 10th from 5:00-7:00pm. During the reception\, selected students will be honored with awards. This event is free and open to the public; all are warmly welcomed to attend and refreshments will be served. \nLord Hall Gallery is free\, accessible\, and open to the public Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm. This talk highlights efforts at the National Eye Institute to address these changes and shares lessons for the broader scientific and medical communities. Topics include an overview of NEI\, the potential of imaging and AI to improve care (with pediatric retinal disease as an example)\, key challenges to adoption and NIH initiatives to address them\, and emerging trends shaping the future of clinical care\, research\, and education.聽\n\nAbout the speaker\nDr. Michael F. Chiang聽is Director of the National Eye Institute. By background\, he is a pediatric ophthalmologist and is also board-certified in clinical informatics. His research focuses on the interface of biomedical informatics and clinical ophthalmology in areas such as retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)\, telehealth\, artificial intelligence\, electronic health records\, data science\, and genotype-phenotype correlation. DESCRIPTION:Join the 91爆料 Cooperative Extension for聽Oxford County Winter School for Farmers\, Homesteaders\, and Gardeners\, a seasonal learning series designed to support small farms\, homesteads\, and home gardeners across Oxford County and beyond. \nEach two-hour session聽features an engaging presentation followed by聽Q&A and discussion. The series includes both Zoom and in-person sessions to provide flexible participation options. \nTerrestrial Invasive Plant ID\, Ecology & Spread; the Importance of Early Detection & Rapid Response; and iMapInvasives聽will introduce people to the common invasive plants in Oxford County; how to identify them and how to remove them. We will raise awareness on invasive plant ecology\, how they spread on the landscape\, and the impacts they have on the landscape to ecosystem services\, native plants\, and food web dynamics. \nWe will also highlight the importance of early detection/rapid response (EDRR)\, the EDRR species invading forests in Maine\, and do a brief introduction on iMap invasives 鈥� a citizen science mapping tool and a central repository for invasive plant data in Maine. DESCRIPTION:This 5-week course starts on聽April 7th聽at聽Cherry Hill Shaw Farm聽in Gorham\, ME. \nParticipants will learn how to handle tractors and equipment safely\, how to identify hazards\, and how to minimize the chances of accidents. The course is open to all adults and youth interested. A Federal Certificate of Training will be issued at the end of the course after successful completion of the written test and driving course and with attendance requirements met. This certificate is required for 14 and 15 year olds who plan to operate farm equipment for hire on farms other than their own. \nFormat: \n\nIn-person lectures\, hands-on demonstrations\, and tractor driving.\nAdditional reading and coursework outside of class time. DESCRIPTION:This webinar will explore Waldo County Bounty鈥檚 Give and Take program\, a stigma-free model for sharing surplus garden produce through community drop-off sites. Participants will learn how the program operates\, how new sites are selected\, and how to start a Give and Take site in their own community. She lives in Lincolnville where she enjoys growing food with her family and sharing the bounty with her community. \nMattie John Bamman (he/him) serves as the communications coordinator for Waldo County Bounty\, a nonprofit organization that he cofounded during the pandemic to increase access to locally grown fruits and vegetables. Mattie has participated in the development of WCB programming\, including the Farm-to-Pantry\, Seedling-to-Pantry\, Veggies For All Gleaning\, and Give & Take Stand programs\, which seek to support food insecure individuals and farms to strengthen the Waldo County food system. DESCRIPTION:91爆料 Cooperative Extension is hosting a family-oriented Starting Seeds Indoors workshop on Wednesday\, April 8 from 2:30鈥�3:30 p.m. at Millinocket Memorial Library\, 5 Maine Avenue. \nGardeners of all ages are invited to this hands-on workshop where Kate Garland\, Horticulturist with the 91爆料 Extension\, will provide a 30-minute overview of best practices for successful seed starting\, including timing\, lighting\, soil selection and care. The program will conclude with a make-and-take activity\, and participants will leave with newly sown seeds to grow at home and transplant into their own gardens. \nAt the same time\, Extension 4鈥慔 Community Education Assistant Emily Bishop will lead youth in engaging\, seed鈥憈hemed activities. The session will include a lively read鈥慳loud connected to seed starting\, followed by a hands鈥憃n activity where each child plants a seed to take home. \nThe workshop is free and open to the public. In this talk\, we will discuss a variety of such inequalities\, including new ones for convex hypersurfaces. DESCRIPTION:Lord Hall Gallery is proud to host the Department of Art鈥檚 2026 Student Exhibition. This show celebrates the diverse artwork made by students at the 91爆料 who have taken undergraduate courses in the Department of Art. The Department of Art offers foundational studies in 2D Design\, 3D Design\, and Drawing\, as well as media-specific classes in Painting\, Ceramics\, Photography\, Printmaking\, Digital Art\, Graphic Design\, Drawing\, and Sculpture. More information about the Department is available here:umaine.edu/las/art. \nStudents who were enrolled in an Art class in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 had the opportunity to submit up to six pieces for consideration in this juried exhibition. This year鈥檚 juror is Rochelle Lawrence. Lawrence is an artist and serves as the Assistant Curator and Education Coordinator at the Zillman Art Museum. \nThe exhibition runs from April 6th through May 1st. A public reception will be held on Friday April 10th from 5:00-7:00pm. During the reception\, selected students will be honored with awards. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University. His presentation is titled聽Conservation Bioacoustics in a Rapidly Changing Ocean. \nDr. Rice will discuss ways in which his lab uses marine bioacoustics to understand and mitigate human impacts on whales and fishes from data-deficient species\, offshore wind farm construction\, and marine community responses to climate change\, addressing information gaps in marine spatial planning and providing data to reduce uncertainty with decision-making and policy development. \nThe annual Libby Lecture in Natural Resource Policy was established with a gift from Lawrence W. DESCRIPTION:The Maine Masque\, 91爆料鈥檚 student-led theatre group\, is set to present its annual production. \nThis year鈥檚 offering is the Tennessee Williams classic 鈥淭he Glass Menagerie.鈥� A memory play\, the piece follows Tom Wingfield\, who seeks to escape his stifling life supporting his mother\, Amanda\, and fragile sister\, Laura\, in 1930s St. Louis. The desperation within the family spirals\, leaving Tom to choose between the comfort of his family and his own happiness. \nThis important piece of the 20th century theatrical canon will be directed by Owen Hines and is almost entirely student-produced. Tickets are $15\, but admission is free with a student MaineCard. The show runs from April 3 through April 12; come see our talented students bring this great American play to vivid life in the Cyrus Pavilion Theater.
