Syukuro Manabe and Richard T. Wetherald are the first to use a computer model to explore the impact of increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide on the Earth\u2019s climate<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Syukuro Manabe and Richard T. Wetherald publish \u201cThermal Equilibrium of the Atmosphere with a Given Distribution of Relative Humidity\u201d in the Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences<\/em>.\u00a0They conclude that \u201ca doubling of the CO2<\/sub>\u00a0content in the atmosphere has the effect of raising the temperature of the atmosphere (whose relative humidity is fixed) by about 2C.\u201d*<\/sup>\u00a0The analysis is \u201cthe first to represent the fundamental elements of the Earth\u2019s climate in a computer model, and to explore what doubling carbon dioxide (CO2<\/sub>) would do to global temperature.\u201d \u00a0A 2015 CarbonBrief<\/em> poll of leading scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will find this paper most often chosen as the \u201cmost influential climate change paper of all time.\u201d**<\/sup><\/p>\n
