Philip King

Assistant Professor
Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Philip King is the PI of the Knowledge and Innovation for Next Generation Manufacturing (KING) Lab at the 91±¬ÁÏ. Dr. King and his students in the KING Lab study the relationship between advanced manufacturing processes and the material properties of the parts they produce to develop more efficient metal manufacturing methods that create higher-quality parts. Specifically, the KING Lab concentrates on hybrid processes that combine metal casting and additive manufacturing (AM). These include exploring new methods for 3D printing sand molds, examining how locally controlled cooling influences material properties, and developing techniques to rapidly produce metal parts using readily available FFF 3D printers.
In addition to his research, Dr. King teaches MEE 150 Statics and MEE 330 Manufacturing Engineering.
