Centralmaine.com talks to Bennett-Armistead about summer reading programs
Associate professor of literacy education Susan Bennett-Armistead spoke to for a story about Little Free Libraries and summer reading programs for kids. 鈥淚n any given year, students are at-risk for losing up to a third of what they learned the previous year鈥 over the summer, Bennett-Armistead said. She encouraged families to incorporate 20 minutes of literacy activities 鈥 reading, writing, listening and speaking 鈥 into their daily routine. 鈥淵ou don鈥檛 have to have lessons every day, but engage in reading with the family, do family read-aloud, have the chance to interact around children鈥檚 interests and give them the opportunity to have more literacy,鈥 she said.
