Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS)

Awards are available to graduate students using North American French at the intermediate or higher level in their research on a Canadian or Canadian-American topic leading to a master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation. Each award consists of a $15,600* stipend, plus a tuition waiver and 50% of health insurance.

Summer FLAS-Not available Summer 2019

The Canadian-American Center offers summer FLAS awards that fund 6 weeks of intensive French language study at a Canadian university. These awards carry a $2,500 stipend and payment of tuition fees. These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education through its Title VI International Graduate Education Program. FLAS awards are open only to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

New England-Atlantic Provinces-Quebec Fellowship (NEAPQ)

Two awards are available to graduate students engaged in some aspect of cross-border research in the New England-Atlantic Provinces-Quebec region. One fellowship is reserved for candidates in History. Each award consists of a $15,600* stipend plus a tuition waiver and 50% of health insurance. NEAPQ awards are open to citizens of any country.

Canadian-American Center Fellowship

Three fellowships are available to graduate students in any discipline that deals with Canada or Canadian-American relations. Each award consists of a $15,600* stipend, plus a tuition waiver and 50% of health insurance. Center fellowships are open to citizens of any country.
