Find all of the important Residence Hall Opening and Closing Dates so you are in the loop for the move-in/move-out process.

2026-2027 Academic Year Residence Hall Move-In Day

  • New, incoming students may move starting at 8:00 am on Monday, August 24th, 2026.
  • Returning students not participating in Bridge Week or preseason activities may arrive starting Saturday, August 29th, 2026.

2026-2027 Academic Year Residence Hall Break Closing

The following halls remain open during the academic year; students are not required to vacate.

  • Coburn
  • DTAV/Patch
  • Hancock
  • Hart
  • Knox
  • Penobscot
  • Polaris
  • Somerset
  • Stodder
  • York

All other halls:

Winter Break

  • All students must vacate by 7:00 pm, Friday, December 18, 2026
  • Return on Sunday, January 17, 2027

Spring Break

  • All students must vacate by 7:00 pm, Friday, March 12, 2027
  • Return Sunday, March 21, 2027

2026-2027 Academic Year Residence Hall Closing

Fall Semester

  • Residence halls do not close at all during the fall semester

Academic Year End

  • All students must vacate by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7, 2027
  • Commencement participants must get approval by Housing or
    Residence Life to vacate by 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2027
  • Students who will be participating in Commencement need to email um.housing@maine.edu with their role in Commencement (ie, graduating, Color Guard, etc) to be placed on the extended stay list and may stay in their residence hall until 7:00pm Saturday, May 8.
