DESCRIPTION:The Boren Awards were established by the National Security Education Act of 1991\, which created the National Security Education Board\, the National Security Education Program\, and a trust fund in the U.S. Treasury to provide resources for scholarships\, fellowships and grants. It is guided by a mission that seeks to lead in development of the national capacity to educate U.S. citizens\, understand foreign cultures\, strengthen U.S. economic competitiveness\, and enhance international cooperation and security. As a Boren Fellow or Scholar you will spend time abroad learning another language and experiencing the culture of your host country. The goal of the Boren Awards is to prepare American students for future careers contributing to the security of the United States. \nBenefits: \n\n$25\,000 for 25-52 weeks (any major)\n$12\,500 for 12-24 weeks (any major)\n$8\,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only)\n\nEligibility: \n\nBe a U.S. citizen\nBe planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe\, Canada\, Australia\, or New Zealand\nBe planning to study in a country of which they are not a citizen\nBe an undergraduate student — all years and most majors\nBe interested in learning a language abroad\n\nLink to complete eligibility requirements \nDeadline: January 28th\, 2026

DESCRIPTION:*This information session has been cancelled\, please contact oms.ga@maine.edu to set an individual appointment!\n\nThe James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers $24\,000 to individuals desiring to become outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level. Senior Fellowships are also awarded to current\, in-service teachers.\n\nAfter receiving the master’s degree\, each Fellow must teach American history\, American government\, or civics where you will teach topics on the Constitution in grades 7–12 for one full year for each academic year of funding received under a fellowship\, preferably in the state from which you were awarded the fellowship. \nLink to complete eligibility requirements \nInternal Deadline: February 3rd\, 2025 \nNational Deadline: March 2nd\, 2025 \nThee Office of Major Scholarships will be hosting a dedicated information session on Wednesday\, January 28th from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in Shibles Hall\, Room 159. Professor Mark Brewer\, 91±¬ÁÏ’s James Madison Fellowship representative\, will also be in attendance.
