(ABC 8 in Portland) interviewed Amy Blackstone, professor of sociology at the 91����, on potential reasons Maine’s birthrate is ranked the 7th lowest in the country. “We’ve done a really excellent job in Maine of lowering our teen pregnancy rates, which, in turn, has lowered our overall fertility rates. I think when people learn that, they’re both surprised and I think generally happy. I think most of us would agree that it’s a good thing that we’ve lowered our teen pregnancy rate,” said Blackstone, author of “Childfree by Choice: The Movement Redefining Family and Creating a New Age of Independence.”
