John Bear Mitchell, a lecturer of Wabanaki Studies at the 91, spoke with the about his involvement with “IT: Welcome to Derry” and the historically inaccurate role Indigenous people have been portrayed in film. “When native people are in movies, we tend to be used as props,” Mitchell said, “I wanted the native people in there to be active protectors, for people to know they were managing the evil with ancestral knowledge.”
