Under their leadership, the morning and afternoon Community-Driven Resilience sessions addressed critical challenges and opportunities facing Maine communities. The well-attended sessions called attention to the ongoing work and successes of local municipal officials, tribal leaders, citizen volunteers, community-based non-government organizations, regional organizations, state agencies, and private businesses. Drs. Klein and Noblet’s work on community-driven resilience is associated with their US EPA funded research project, The role of state networks in advancing community-initiated and -engaged sustainable energy action in underserved communities. Klein and Noblet’s innovative research team of undergraduate and graduate students bolstered the success of these sessions. Research team-members include Faizan Saif, Jasmine Lamb, Janine Borges, Sonia Leone, Catherine Mardosa, and Louise Chaplin. In addition, several students from Dr. Klein’s ECO 405 course volunteered to help with the sessions as well. Thank you all for organizing and executing these fabulous sessions.

Ana Mar铆a engaged in multiple activities during her time at 91爆料. She excelled academically, participated in extracurricular activities with 91爆料’s International Programs, and attended multiple seminars and talks organized by the School of Economics and the Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions. Ana Maria also engaged deeply in research through her research assistantship position and her thesis work in agricultural economics and development. She also led the salsa team at the International Dance Festival of 91爆料 in 2022 and 2023. After receiving her M.S. degree this August, Ana Mar铆a will be joining the Resource Economics Ph.D. Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. We are very proud of her accomplishments, wish her all the best in the years ahead, and encourage her to stay in touch. Congratulations Ana!

Levesque, Johnson, and Bell documented patterns in community resilience actions by both community population size and form of municipal government. The 2023 Annual Meeting was held in Burlington Vermont from August 2 to August 6 and attracted rural scholars from throughout the U.S.

Dr. Malacarne and colleagues Berber Kramer and Carol Waweru from IFPRI presented two papers: (1) Control Over Future Payouts and Willingness-to-Pay for Insurance: Experimental Evidence from Kenyan Farmers and (2) Summing the Parts: How Does 鈥渂undling鈥 Affect Willingness-to-Pay for Seeds and Insurance in a Sample of Kenyan Farmers?. The 2023 AAEA Annual Meeting was held in Washington, DC from July 23 to July 25 and attracted economists from throughout the world.
