Have you ever seen a tree that instead of being full of fruit, is filled by boots, sneakers, and sandals? If you’re in Maine, then there’s no reason why you can’t! Maine has an amazing array of unique sights that you may not even know about and all of which are worth the trip.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Below is a list of 4 must-see places in Northern Maine. Plus, if you want to make a day of it, go ahead and click on the town name that is listed with the attraction. That will take you to the town page on our website, which will show a plethora of things to do in the area.<\/p>\n

1. THE SOLAR SYSTEM<\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n

This one spans quite a few miles, although doesn\u2019t take up the same \u2018space\u2019 that the real deal does. The solar system starts in Houlton<\/a> and goes all the way to Presque Isle<\/a>, a distance of 40 miles from start to end! While Pluto may no longer be considered a planet, this solar system starts with Pluto in Houlton, and continues in planetary order until we reach the sun, which is located on the campus of UM Presque Isle!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. SHOE TREE<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

If you’re looking for somewhere to retire an old pair of shoes, then look no further. Hodgdon<\/a> is home to its very own shoe tree! This tree has been collecting shoes for years, so there\u2019s a large assortment that has been acquired (over 150 pairs!) and it’s a sight to behold.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. THE BOY AND THE BOOT<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

This statue is one of 29 known of its kind in the world, joining the ranks of others located in places like Fresno, California; and Winnipeg, Canada. The Maine based statue resides in Houlton, where it is always kept well up to date! Fresh paint, as well as lots of love from Houlton’s residents keep the statue looking great.\u00a0<\/span>If you stop by here, you can even visit local stores to get a souvenir of the boy and the boot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. AMERICA’S FIRST MILE<\/a><\/h4>\n

Fort Kent<\/a> is home to America’s First Mile, which is the start of U.S. Route 1. This is the longest highway in the US, which starts in Fort Kent, and goes all the way down to Key West, Florida, a distance of over 2,000 miles! While that may be a little long to travel on foot, Fort Kent has a very nice homage to the first mile that is great to walk around and take pictures with!<\/p>\n
