Dorothy Clarke Wilson Peace Writing Prize Topic Announced

The topic for the 2018 Dorothy Clarke Wilson Peace Writing Prize has been announced by The Wilson Center. The year 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination聽of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which is an appropriate time to reflect on his legacy.聽Applicants are asked to reflect on the following quote, taken from the speech Dr. King gave the night before his death:

鈥淎ll we say to America is, 鈥楤e true to what you said on paper.鈥 If I lived in China or even Russia, or any totalitarian country, maybe I could understand the denial of certain basic First Amendment privileges, because they hadn鈥檛 committed themselves to that over there. But somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom of the press. Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest for right.鈥 聽
