TOPIC: “The role of faith in Social Action\/Activism”<\/strong><\/p>\n Presenters:<\/p>\n Dina Yacoubagha<\/u> is a member of the Islamic Center of Maine and is the head of the education committee. Dina is a candidate for the Masters in social work. She has been active with Food AND Medicine, and Faith Linking in Action. Dina is also a board member at the Wilson Center.\u00a0She has recently joined Partners for Peace, working on her advanced placement. Dina is interested in working with and empowering women.<\/p>\n Gerry Gross<\/u> is Social Action Chair of Congregation Beth El, the reform synagogue in Bangor.\u00a0 Gerry has long been concerned about the environment and social justice.\u00a0 Environmental justice is inextricably tied to social justice as revealed by the impacts of degraded environments, droughts, and violent storms on society’s most vulnerable people.\u00a0 Jewish texts deal extensively with the issues of how we care for our planet and for each other.<\/p>\n John Hennessy<\/u> is the Director of the Maine Episcopal Network for Justice. He has worked on progressive public policy issues for 16 years. The network promises to seek and serve Christ in all persons and to strive for justice and peace. As seekers of justice we answer this call through public policy advocacy. It takes us beyond the traditional avenues of charity to the work of justice – changing the systems that necessitate charity.<\/p>\n John Maddaus<\/u> is chair of the Mission Team at Orono United Methodist Church and has coordinated OUMC\u2019s provision of bimonthly dinners at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter for the past ten years. John is a member of a Maine-Wabanaki REACH ally group, and of the recently organized campus group Decolonizing the 91爆料 (D.U.M.). He is also a board member at the Wilson Center. John is associate professor emeritus of Education at 91爆料.<\/p>\n
