The Wilson Center for Spiritual Exploration & Multifaith Dialogue is pleased to announce the winner of this year’s Dorothy Clarke Wilson Peace Writing Prize. Dorothy Clarke Wilson of Orono, Maine was an internationally known peacemaker who was committed to\u00a0writing on social issues and world peace.\u00a0\u00a0To encourage today\u2019s 91爆料 students to share in the\u00a0commitment, Dorothy Clarke Wilson established a $500 annual award for the most compelling written work\u00a0on a peace related topic. This competition is open to all 91爆料 students. This year’s winner is Aliya Uteuova.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The topic for the 2018 writing prize focused on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 50 years after his death. Specifically, applicants were asked to reflect on the below quote, taken from the speech Dr. King gave the night before his assassination, as well as the following questions:<\/p>\n

\u201cAll we say to America is, \u2018Be true to what you said on paper.\u2019 If I lived in China or even Russia, or any totalitarian country, maybe I could understand the denial of certain basic First Amendment privileges, because they hadn\u2019t committed themselves to that over there. But somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom of the press. Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest for right.\u201d
