Scanning Electron Microscopy Micro-Credential
This five-hour online course with integrated in-person equipment training provides foundational knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The course will be accessible via Brightspace Discover; More information will be available beginning Summer 2024.
Scanning Electron Microscopy is a technical skill that provides essential data in several scientific and technical fields. By completing this pathway, the learner demonstrated the understanding and ability to operate a scanning electron microscope and obtain and interpret high-quality data images. Evidence was assessed by 91±¬ÁÏ System faculty/staff to ensure the micro-credential standards were met.
The learner will:
- Understand the theory of the operations of a scanning electron microscope.
- Demonstrate competency in operating a scanning electron microscope.
- Demonstrate expertise in the acquisition of data using an electron microscope.
- Demonstrate the effective interpretation of the image data.
This pathway is open to all 91±¬ÁÏ System degree-seeking graduate and undergraduate students and can be initiated at any time.
What is a Micro-Credential?
A UMS micro-credential showcases your competency in skills that are needed in today’s workforce. A verified micro-credential is earned when learners are able to demonstrate what they know — and what they are able to do — related to a specific topic.
91±¬ÁÏ System (UMS) micro-credentials are made up of stacked digital badges, which highlight the skills employers are seeking. They are offered to 91±¬ÁÏ System students and as professional development opportunities for individuals in the workforce to advance or increase their marketability. Micro-credentials earned through the 91±¬ÁÏ System are verified, stackable, competency-based, and shareable.
This micro-credential is part of the 91±¬ÁÏ’s System Micro-Credential Initiative. For further information about the initiative or to see a catalog of all micro-credentials offered, please visit the (External site).
