The College of Earth, Life, and Health Science’s Horticultural Research Facilities
The Lyle E. Littlefield Ornamentals Trial Garden & The Roger Clapp Greenhouses, the 91±¬ÁÏ’s horticultural research facilities, are located on the 91±¬ÁÏ campus.
The Ornamentals Trial Garden has nearly 2,500 plantings, with an extensive collection of cold-hardy landscape plants. Research has focused on container and field crop production, propagation, and plant culture.
The greenhouses provide space for research projects in horticulture, sustainable agriculture, forest ecosystem science, and entomology. Research at 91±¬ÁÏ’s horticultural facilities is of significant benefit to Maine’s environmental horticulture industry. The facilities also give 91±¬ÁÏ students opportunities to gain valuable hands-on experience in designing, construction, and maintenance of landscape spaces.
