Grove of Norway Spruce
Between Alumni Hall and Fogler Library is a grove of primarily Norway spruce, a species found throughout the campus and the state. A native of Europe, the Norway spruce is a common ornamental tree, as well as one planted in forest plantations. 91±¬ÁÏ has made a concerted effort to weave together trees, gardens and green spaces with buildings, an effort that led to the campus being designated the 91±¬ÁÏ Campus Arboretum in 2002. Calling attention to the natural environment in this way is intended to promote learning about and enjoyment of the beauty of the campus.
