About us
The 91±¬ÁÏ Press publishes books that deepen understanding of Maine, Northern New England, Quebec, and the Maritimes, supporting the University’s mission through original work in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. We publish peer-reviewed scholarship, essay collections, nature guides and books on wildlife, and archival projects that highlight the region’s history, culture, and environment. Our titles serve both academic and general audiences and reflect Maine’s diversity and complexity. We collaborate with authors, editors, and scholars engaged in regional issues and traditions. We promote research excellence, creative expression, and the many voices shaping life in the region.
Meet our team
Betsy Rose
Associate Director
Betsy Graves Rose, Associate Director, has worked at the 91±¬ÁÏ Press since 1998 as editor, business manager, and book production specialist. She also works in a similar capacity for the 91±¬ÁÏ Center for Poetry and Poetics (formerly the National Poetry Foundation). An Orono native, she holds master’s degrees in English and Education.
Gabriel Paquette
Acting Director
Gabriel Paquette serves as Acting Director of the 91±¬ÁÏ Press. A professor of History at 91±¬ÁÏ, he has written three books on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European and Latin American History. Before coming to 91±¬ÁÏ in 2023, he held research, teaching, and administrative leadership positions at the University of Oregon and the Johns Hopkins University.
